Why do teeth discolour?
Everyone’s teeth are unique and discolour and stain in different ways. The discolouration or staining of a person’s tooth is typically but not exclusively caused by:
Coffee
Black tea / Herbal tee
Red wine
Spicy foods such as curry
Smoking cigarettes / cigars
Prior to commencing any tooth whitening procedures, it’s best to consult your Dentist to understand whether this treatment is suitable for you.
*Please be aware that we cannot legally carry out tooth whitening under the age of 18 years*
Brighter teeth have always been a sign of youth, health and radiance
With professional teeth whitening we can achieve results to suit you, whether you want a little extra brightness, or perhaps you want something more for a special occasion?
Cleaning teeth and Hygiene appointments work to remove extrinsic staining from food and drinks such as tea, coffee, and red wine.
Tooth whitening works on the intrinsic staining, the inner dentine part of the tooth, which becomes darker as you age.
Confusing teeth cleaning and teeth whitening is common among patients. Although the two procedures share similarities, they are very different and so is their purpose.
The main objective of teeth cleaning is to eliminate plaque and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth. This procedure reduces your risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
Tooth whitening on the other hand, is a cosmetic procedure that removes tooth stains and discoloration. Simply put, tooth cleaning improves the health of your mouth and tooth whitening brightens and improves the appearance of your teeth and smile.
Internal Tooth Whitening
Internal whitening for discoloured teeth
Teeth that have undergone Root canal Treatment can overtime become discoloured due to the filling material but can be whitened by internal whitening from inside the tooth to help improve the appearance. This treatment is carried out by your Dentist.
Icon resin infiltration
Teeth which have white spots
due to tooth enamel defects, trauma, or infection in primary teeth can be treated with resin infiltration, a minimally invasive restorative procedure in which healthy hard tissue is preserved and demineralised enamel is reinforced without the need for drilling or anaesthesia.
To achieve the best possible outcome we strongly recommend that you have your teeth professionally cleaned by a Hygienist prior to commencing any tooth whitening treatment
